The Tuskegee Airmen The History and Legacy of America First Black Fighter Pilots in World War II (Audible Audio Edition) Charles River Editors Kenneth Ray Books

The United States has no shortage of famous military units, from the Civil War's Iron Brigade to the 101st Airborne, but one would be hard pressed to find one that had to go through as many hardships off the field as the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American fighter pilots who overcame Jim Crow at home and official segregation in the military to serve their country in the final years of World War II. In fact, it required a concerted effort by groups such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the extreme circumstances brought about by World War II that the military eventually decided to establish the "Tuskegee Experiment". The black crews trained at Tuskegee before being sent overseas, and even then, they faced discrimination from those who didn't trust them to do more than escort bombers flown by white pilots.

Has usual for Charles River Editors this book is brief and concise. It even includes the author Daniel Haulman information about the Tuskegee airmen myths. The Tuskegee airmen were great men who lived in a era where no one pretended that all men were equal and could do similar things. Even if one forgets the myth that they never lost the bomber, one must remember the road these men had to go through to become fighter pilots. Plus even if they did lose some bombers they still lost fewer bombers than other fighter groups.Product details

The Tuskegee Airmen The History and Legacy of America First Black Fighter Pilots in World War II (Audible Audio Edition) Charles River Editors Kenneth Ray Books Reviews
Excellent movie.
this was too short and not enough detail on the subject overall
If you’re looking for depth, this is not your book. However, it is a fantastic starter book for anyone looking to study or gain a general understanding of the airmen.
High level overview. No real depth.
5star book
A good, short, history of the Tuskegee airmen and what they had to go through to earn their way into combat service in WWII. As usual with Charles River Editions it is clearly written and contains a bibliography for additional reading once one is interested -)
Not worth the ten dollar price. This is nothing more than an overpriced pamphlet with very basic information. You can gain more knowledge on the Tuskegee Airmen by using Wikipedia or Googling. Definitely will save you money. Very disappointed in the content 52 pages of small font, with a number of pages having nothing more than a single picture.
